Koh Phangan (Pre-covid times)

Sooooo basically this happened,



Where we are going :

Ko Pha Ngan or Koh Phangan, Thai: เกาะพะงัน, rtgs: Ko Pha-ngan, is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in southeast Thailand in Surat Thani Province. It is part of the Samui Archipelago. It is famous for its Full Moon party at Haad Rin Beach and as a backpacker destination. Ko Pha Ngan has two sister islands: the larger Ko Samui to the south and the smaller Ko Tao to the north.

Yup the island all right, the sun is bright, the air smells of sunblock and all, however the journey, THE JOURNEY to this f%*&ng island is &^(&*5123&%^!!!   In the span of a day we've managed to get on almost all forms of transportation mode known to man. From van-plane-bus-boat-van-tuktuk



What we are going to do:

The Full Moon Party takes place every month throughout the year. Its attractions include fire skipping ropes, alcohol "buckets", and drugs. There is a very wide spectrum of music ranging from trance, to drum and bass, to reggae. The party takes place in many clubs along the Haad Rin beach. For april 2015 the party falls on the 3rd which is a " Thank god its friday!"


What can we expect to see:

So this is what 20,000 to 40,000 people on one beach looks like

One whole long beach just for the full moon party.











What we should be careful of :

There has been many reports of dangerous activities going on during the full moon party. Well what can one expect when there is over 40,000 people partying on the infamous Haad Rin beach intoxicated on alcohol, weed, shroom and god knows what else.

There are also many sad incidents that have taken place on this island such as murders, rape cases, robberies just to name a few. The recent article (17 Sept 2015) below covers this quite well.


The dark underworld of the full moon party

Too drunk or too drugged? 

 The infamous bucket drinks. There are various prices and different combinations. Now the real danger lies in the fact that any of it could be spiked, leaving you vulnerable as above for thieves to take your belongings or even worse, take your body.

 The flaming jump rope, yeah after a few drinks you will be like why not? this is easy and i'm super brave and that's when you realize fire do burn human skin faster than you can say " roti bakar"










So we are going to one of the world's infamous party places, lets put the "full moon party, is the greatest ever" to the test, X-dest style.

basically non of the above really happened, to us anyway.  Drinks are cheap and plenty, girls are everywhere but we didnt get any. We went we see, we go home

Excruciating 18 hour van ride, Hiking up a living rumbling and angry ash spewing Mount Bromo, Hiking up Mount Ijen and scaling down its crater blanketed in noxious sulphur fume. 

Was it worth all the effort? HELL YEAH!!
