Makeup or no makeup?

I wonder why people care so much how the stars look if they are talented enough to be the world famous singer and actresses that they are now...I don't understand why most guys are fussing over Lady Gaga's appearance without make up,they are just proving that guys are so shallow that all they care are the looks?And another question who are the women wearing makeup for? themselves or the guys?
